HOUSTON (ICIS)–US May polypropylene (PP) exports showed another moderate gain year on year, with shipments to China and India accounting for the increase, according to data obtained this week from the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
PP cargoes to China more than doubled and to India more than tripled, making up for declines in shipments to top destinations Mexico and Canada. A similar movement occurred in April.
In the first five months this year, PP exports accounted for 5.6% of total North American production, according to data from the American Chemistry Council (ACC).
US PP imports, only a fraction of exports and not quite 1% of total production, increased largely on more material from top sources Korea, Israel, Canada, Mexico, Belgium and Colombia.
Major North American PP producers include LyondellBasell, ExxonMobil, INEOS, Total, Formosa, Braskem Americas, Pinnacle Polymers, Phillips 66 and Flint Hills Resources.
